Pre-emptive nukes?

The Japan Times reports that

The U.S. military is considering allowing regional combatant commanders to request presidential approval for pre-emptive nuclear strikes against possible attacks with weapons of mass destruction on the United States or its allies, according to a draft nuclear operations paper.

Holy shit on a stick. Think Bush could have won if this had gotten out last year? Think this will really frighten NKorea? They already feel backed into a corner by Bush. As much of a ritzcracker ratbastard (thanks to Kate for that line) as Kim Jong Il is, ratbastards that might have nukes and the missiles to deliver them should not be taunted. Especially not a second time.

The worst part of all this is that NKorea doesn't have to attack the US to do billions of dollars in damage. They can attack their hated enemies in Japan. A nuclear attack on a trading partner as important as Japan would do more harm than a thousand 9/11s. A nuclear attack on Alaska, which is within the maximum estimated range of their missiles, could cause mass panic in the US if the jetstream winds are right. Even if the amount of fallout was small enough to be of no real risk, people would be maddened with fear.

Write your representatives and senators. Call your senator at 1800 SOB USOB. Yes, that is the real number for the Senate Office Building. I'll be calling mine tomorrow.

Be polite, even if you are contacting someone you really don't like. You will get much further. If we can get them to talk about this on the span, maybe the MSM (mainstream media) will pick it up. I can only hope this is a false report. As nuke happy as this administration is, I'd believe the worst.
