Newsweek to recieve apology from White House

What a wonderful dream. The right wing press, the White House, the whole republican cess pit. The FBI has testimony from inmates that the Quran desecration and flushing did occur (WaPo had the initial story, from the ACLU's source, here are the blogs, ODub, AmericaBlog, Blah3, DKos, Think Progress).

From Blah3, An inmate interviewed in the FBI report says that the desecration never happened. I wonder if he got anything for it.

From the Washington Post,

Nearly a dozen detainees at the Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba told FBI interrogators that guards had mistreated copies of the Koran, including one who said in 2002 that guards "flushed a Koran in the toilet," according to new FBI documents released today.

The summaries of FBI interviews, obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union as part of an ongoing lawsuit, also include allegations that the Koran was kicked, thrown to the floor and withheld as punishment and that guards mocked Muslim prisoners during prayers.

It must have been like pulling teeth for the ACLU to get this from the government. Thing is, it still isn't enough proof to get the freepers to quit claiming that the 1st ammendment must die to save Amerika. I am very concerned with the attitude that keeping abuse hidden from the American people protects our soldiers.

Holding the moral high ground by respecting the religion of detainees protects our soldiers.

Releasing improperly held innocents protects our soldiers.

Not torturing prisoners (never mind that torture is known to produce unreliable intel in the first place) protects our soldiers.

Actually fixing the water and electric supply in Iraq protects our soldiers.

Hell, protecting our soliers with armor vests and armor for hummers protects our soldiers.

Having enough troops to do the jobs protects our soldiers.

Not invading countries based on lies protects our soldiers.

Finishing the Job in Afghanistan would have protected our soldiers.

I guess that means that Bush hasn't done much of a job protecting our soldiers.
